en-ca "Since 1970, Richard Sewell has been an active participant in the Canadian cultural landscape as an exhibiting artist, artist collaborator (in dance, music, and performance), printer, publisher, arts administrator, and as a broad-based educator having taught at the Ontario College of Art and Design University, the Alberta College of Art and Design, the University of Saskatchewan, and at Sheridan College in- the Art and Art History Program, a joint program with UTM, the Crafts and Design Program, and the Arts Fundamental Program. In 1970, Sewell co-founded Open Studio, a Toronto artist-run printmaking facility. In 1982, Mr. Sewell joined the Art and Art History Program and worked with a generation of students in the areas of printmaking, drawing, painting, sculpture, and performance, teaching at all levels. Sewell lives in Grand Bend, Ontario, where he pursues his visual investigations, maintains a wall comprised of local flora and fauna, and continues to appear as a colourful photograph on a Sheridan wall of Professor Emeritus at the College.

Throughout his teaching career Professor Sewell has maintained his artistic practice and exhibited his work at the Red Head and at public and university art galleries such as Mercer Union, The Agnes Etherington Art Centre and Artcite, to name a few. Professor Sewell’s artwork is represented in the following public collections: Canada Council Art Bank, Ottawa; Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto; Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Halifax; Owens Art Gallery, Mount Allison University, Sackville, NB; The Gallery/Stratford, Stratford, ON; City of Toronto Archives, Toronto; The Station Gallery, Whitby, ON; Toronto General Hospital, Toronto; Winnipeg Art Galley, Winnipeg."
