“…Duet, two aluminum forms with a microscopically corrugated surface that nicely holds the light within manageable intensities. Basically, two vertical principles interrupted by a diagonal in each case. Duet achieves a dynamic and monumental effect with a minimum of effort.” (Dore Ashton)
“He (Lorcini) has deliberately limited himself to exploring the permutations and combinations of angles and planes—their joining together and power of the spaces between them. Consequently, his work at first appears to be simple. You can take it all in visually immediately—so it would seem.” (Paddy O’Brien)
The highly polished Duet catches, reflects or holds myriad light patterns with its varied surfaces. As in the main body of his work from the 70s, Lorcini explores the connection between music and sculpture.
The variation in finish, the fugue-like connection between the two towers and the use of light to suggest immateriality create a symbiotic relationship between the two units making the sculpture a perfectly pitched tuning fork. If Duet intimates something much grander, it is for good reason. It was the maquette for a monumental-sized Montreal commission. (David Phillips, Seneca Polytechnic)
